Becoming a Candidate
The following documents and link provide information on how to become a candidate for public office. As a candidate, you are responsible for becoming familiar with the election and campaign finance requirements that apply to your campaign. You may obtain general information about elections from the Wisconsin Elections Commission website. Further information could be obtained from either the Wisconsin Statutes or from your private attorney. Information you receive from the City Clerk's office may not be interpreted as legal advice or a release from your responsibility to comply with the law. NOTICE OF SPRING ELECTION
APRIL 4, 2023 Election Details
An election is to be held in the City of Middleton, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. The following offices are to be elected to succeed the present incumbents listed:
OFFICE INCUMBENT Alderperson, District #1 Kathy Olson Alderperson, District #3 Katy Nelson Alderperson, District #5 Luke Fuzard Alderperson, District #7 Dan Ramsey II Mayor Gurdip S. Brar Office Terms
The term for mayor and alderperson begins on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The term for alderperson is two years and the term for mayor is three years. District Boundaries

For Candidates
The first day to circulate nomination papers is December 1, 2022, and the final day for filing nomination papers is 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in the office of the city clerk.
Primary Election
If a primary is necessary, the primary will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Additional Information
Acceptable Photo ID will be required to vote at this election. If you do not have a photo ID you may obtain a free ID for voting from the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Deadlines and Due Dates
Deadlines and due dates for mayor, municipal judge, and alderperson are as follows:
First Day to Circulate Nomination Papers - December 1
All required papers are due by 5 p.m. the first Tuesday in January (if this days lands on a holiday, they are due the next business day).

Campaign Finance Information |
Notification of Non Candidacy Required for incumbent officeholder is not intending on seeking re-election to the same office. The Notification of Non-Candidacy is due by 5:00 pm the 2nd Friday before the nomination papers deadline. |
Political and Election Campaign Signs |

Political and Election Campaign are signs containing a “political message” and displayed during an “election campaign period”, as
those terms are defined in Wis. Stats. § 12.04(1)(a).
Political signs may not exceed twelve (12) square feet in area
Political signs shall not have an electrical, mechanical, or audio auxiliary component, and shall not be attached to or placed on utility poles, trees, traffic devices, or within the public right-of-way
Political signs shall be removed after seven days from the election date or will be counted as noncommercial message sign under City of Middleton Ordinance 22.11(14). |
