Tax Payment & Billing

Mailing & Rates

  • Bills are typically mailed around December 15 each year.
  • The City tax rate is set after the Common Council approves the budget in late November.
  • Your bill also includes taxes from other jurisdictions such as the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District, Waunakee School District, MATC, Dane County, and the State of Wisconsin.

Payment Timeline

  • The City of Middleton (on behalf of the Dane County Treasurer) collects payments through January 31.
    • Pay in full, or
  • Pay the first installment (half the bill) by January 31.
  • On February 1, all unpaid bills are transferred to the Dane County Treasurer’s Office for collection.
    • Second installments and any outstanding balances are due to Dane County by July 31.

Late Payments

  • At least the first installment must be paid by January 31.
  • Missing this deadline cancels the installment option, and the full balance, plus a penalty, becomes due to Dane County.

Copies & Records

  • View or print your tax bill by entering your parcel number or address on the Dane County Treasurer’s website.
  • By mid-February, Dane County updates its database with City payment records. You can confirm amounts paid, outstanding balances, and prior year taxes online or by calling (608) 266-4151.
