Downtown Brick & Crosswalk Project Update, 7/21/14

Formatted HTML message

This should be the last week with significant disruptions associated with the downtown brick paver replacement project. However, there will be significant traffic and parking impacts this week.

Asphalt work is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, weather permitting. This will require the one-day closure of Hubbard Avenue WEST of Parmenter Street in order to install the final lift of asphalt south of the Elmwood/Hubbard intersection. There will also be short-term closures around the newly installed crosswalks (on one side of the street at a time) and in various other locations where asphalt needs to be installed or replaced.

Wednesday morning (July 23) through Thursday afternoon (July 24), Parmenter Street between University and Elmwood Avenues will be completely closed in order to facilitate the reconstruction of the crosswalk on the south leg of the Parmenter/University intersection in the safest and most expeditious manner possible. Drivers will NOT be able to turn from University south onto Parmenter. City officials anticipate that this block will be reopened to traffic by Thursday evening, after the concrete has sufficiently cured.

These should be the last street closures associated with this project.

On Friday and extending into next week, workers are expected to begin completion of brick installation in the street terrace along the north side of Elmwood (near Gunderson Funeral Home) and along the west side of Parmenter. Over the next week, Speedway will also be constructing two brick plazas near the Hubbard and Elmwood entrances to the Senior Center / Hubbard Art Center building.

For more information about the project, contact Mark Opitz at mopitz@ci.middleton.wi.us, or call (608) 821-8370.
