DECEMBER MINI-COURSES

  • MONDAYS (12/3, 12/10, 12/17)                                                    4:15-5:15pm   
    • Finger Knitting  l  Liel                                                       Limit: 10 students
      Learn how to finger knit and make some adorable finger knitted animals including butterflies, octopuses, and bunnies. Great holiday gifts!
    • Holiday Cooking  l  Norah                                                Limit: 10 students
      Students will make several holiday recipes from different cultures/religions including potato latkes, spritz cookies, benne cakes and hot chocolate. We will also participate in games and activities related to each holiday.
  • TUESDAYS (12/4, 12/11, 12/18)  *Drop-in Basketball at KMS* 4:15-5:15pm
    • Holiday Card Volunteer Project  l  Norah                        Limit: 10 students
      In collaboration with Middleton High School Key Club students, this mini-course will spend the first two days creating holiday cards for the residents of Voss Haus (senior and disabled housing). On 12/18, students will deliver the cards to the residents and sing holiday carols.                        
    • Radio DJing  l  Corey & Liel                                            Limit: 10 students
      With the help of Corey, Lussier Community Center’s Radio Station Manager, this month’s Radio Club will focus on choosing the music to play in between radio segments and sequence all the elements of the radio show together. We will also learn some basic DJ techniques like beat matching and mixing.
  • WEDNESDAYS (12/5, 12/12, 12/19)                                           4:15-5:15pm
    • Exploring Spanish  l  Akshita + Youth Center Students  Limit: 10 students
      Month 2 of Exploring Spanish will review basic phrases and vocabulary while also focusing more on the culture, foods, and different accents of the world’s 20 Spanish-speaking countries.
  • THURSDAYS (12/6, 12/13, 12/20)                                              4:15-5:15pm
    • Boys Group  l  John                                                        Limit: 15 students
      This mini-course session of boys group will focus on life as a boy, masculinity and expectations. We will view clips from the documentary "The Mask You Live In" as a starting point for group discussion.
  • FRIDAYS (12/7, 12/14, 12/21)                                                    4:15-5:15pm
    • Justice Talking: Gender  l  Haley                                  Limit: 10 students
      Justice Talking is a social justice discussion and activism course. This month, students will look into the power structures of gender and how gender inequality creates harm. What issues affect different genders more than others? What role to do we play in gender inequality? What can we do about it?
    • Minecraft  l  Norah + Youth Center Students              Limit: 10 students
      Students will learn Minecraft basics, how to using coding in Minecraft, and will also compete in several Minecraft challenges designed by Youth Center students.

Drop-in Basketball at Kromrey Field House
3:40-5pm Every Tuesday until Spring Break!


Youth Center students can participate in drop-in basketball at the Kromrey Field House every Tuesday from 3:40-5pm from now until Spring Break. Students should go straight to the Kromrey Field House, where they can sign-in with Youth Center staff and get an after school snack before playing basketball. This activity is limited to the first 20 Youth Center students who sign-in. If drop-in basketball is full, students can still go to the Youth Center after school. At 5pm, students must either be picked-up at Kromrey or they will walk with Youth Center staff to the Youth Center, which closes at 6pm.
