NOVEMBER MINI-COURSES

  • MONDAYS (10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 11/26)                               4:15-5:15pm
    • Exploring Spanish  l  Danielle                                          Limit: 10 students
      • Students will explore the Spanish language through fun activities. Along with learning basic words and phrases, we will also explore the cultures of some Spanish speaking countries.
    • Family Recipes  l  Liel                                                       Limit: 10 students
      • Come join us for a baking/cooking class where we’ll be making some of your classmates’ favorite family recipes including flan, dumplings, brownies, a rice dish, and peach cobbler!
  • TUESDAYS (10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 11/27)                             4:15-5:15pm
    • Girls Inc: Informed and Healthy Girls and Women  l  Norah  Limit: 10 students      
      • We will discuss how girls can take control and feel empowered and informed about their bodies and healthcare. We will do various activities around the topics of prescription drug use, your rights as a young adult and your medical care, body image, sexual harassment and more.                         
    • Radio Beat Making and Production l  Corey & Haley    Limit: 10 students      
      • With the help of Corey, Lussier Community Center’s Radio Station Manager, this month’s Radio Club will focus on producing our own beats and instrumentals from scratch to be used as part of the radio show. The December radio mini-course will complete the show.
  • WEDNESDAYS (10/31, 11/7, 11/14, *No School 11/21*, 11/28)  4:15-5:15pm
    • Makers Club  l  Akshita                                                     Limit: 10 students
      • This mini-course is provided in partnership with DANEnet, a non-profit dedicated to making information technology accessible. Students will participate in a variety of hands-on science and technology activities. All activities will be different from the October Makers Club.
  • THURSDAYS (11/1, 11/8, 11/15, *No School 11/22*, 11/29)        4:15-5:15pm
    • Tag and After Dark Games  l  John                                  Limit: 16 students
      • We will play a variety of tag games each week. After daylight savings time ends, we will play After Dark Games like ghosts in the graveyard! Bring your favorite tag/after dark games to share with the group! Please make sure to bring warm clothes since we will plan to be outside.
  • FRIDAYS (11/2, 11/9, 11/16, *No School 11/23*, 11/30)              4:15-5:15pm
    • Justice Talking: How to talk about…  l  Haley                Limit: 10 students
      • Justice Talking is a social justice discussion and activism course. This month, student will tackle how to talk about social issues with people who might not “get it” just yet. This includes how to talk about race, welfare and income inequality, gender and sexuality, and immigration.

TRICK-OR-TREAT SO OTHERS CAN EAT
NOW THROUGH FRIDAY 11/2!

The Youth Center is collecting non-perishable foods to be donated to families in need now through Friday 11/2! Students can place donated food in the large bin at the entrance of the Youth Center. This project is in partnership with Partners for After School Success (PASS) AmeriCorps and the Community Action Coalition (CAC).
