PROCLAMATION
Earth Day
Whereas, The idea for a national day to focus on the environment was the brainchild of Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson; and
Whereas, On April 22,1970, twenty-two (22) million Americans rallied around the country to advocate for a healthy, sustainable environment; and
Whereas, In 1990, two hundred (200) million people in 141 countries around the world rallied in support of the environment; and
Whereas, In 2000, millions of people in 184 countries around the world rallied in support of the environment; and
Whereas, In 2010, millions of people in 192 countries around the world rallied in support of the environment; and
Whereas, Now over 1 billion people participate in Earth Day each year; and
Whereas, Middleton citizens will be doing their part to protect the environment during the month of April and particularly on the weekend of April 21 and 22.
Now, therefore, I, Gurdip Brar, Mayor of the City of Middleton do hereby proclaim April 22, 2018, as
Earth Day
in Middleton and express appreciation for the citizen-sponsored events that can be found at the following link: http://www.ci.middleton.wi.us/430/Sustainable-Middleton-April-2018 throughout the City of Middleton in April. Furthermore, I commend local participants in this observance and encourage all our citizens to wear green, the unofficial color of Earth Day. Together, let’s keep Middleton Green!
This proclamation was adopted at a regular meeting of the Middleton Common Council on the 17th day of April, 2018.
