The City of Middleton is considering a Historic Pheasant Branch Crossing concept plan. Pheasant Branch was an early settlement in Middleton Township, but its location is now within the City of Middleton. The Pheasant Branch settlement area contains some of the oldest buildings in Dane County, including the historic Stamm House, which was built in 1847 and has served as a store, a post office, and possibly even a station on the “Underground Railroad” offering refuge to former slaves seeking freedom in the North. The Middleton Area Historical Society has a document on their website that contains additional information about the Pheasant Branch Settlement, and other historic buildings in the area. The City of Middleton is embracing the opportunity to celebrate these historic structures and their location proximate to the Pheasant Branch Creek, trails, and Conservancy; highlighting their history and architecture as key ingredients of the district’s unique flavor; and thoughtfully repurposing these structures to draw new activity and investment to an attractive, pedestrian-oriented district. Going forward, the concept plan can also serve as a guideline as decisions are made related to infill and redevelopment opportunities within the district.
We have compiled the draft document entitled ‘Historic Pheasant Branch Crossing’ (http://www.cityofmiddleton.us/DocumentCenter/View/4773) and we would like to hear your thoughts! The City is holding a public input session at the Plan Commission meeting on Tuesday, August 22 at 8:00pm at Middleton City Hall (7426 Hubbard Avenue). Please note that 8:00pm is the estimated start time for the public input session, but it may be pushed later due to the agenda items before it.
