City of Middleton Appoints Kris O’Dell as
Emergency Medical Services Chief

MIDDLETON, WI — The City of Middleton has appointed Kris O’Dell as Chief of the Middleton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department following a comprehensive and competitive selection process. Chief O’Dell officially assumed the role on February 23, 2026, after approval by the Middleton Common Council.

Chief O’Dell brings nearly 32 years of emergency medical services experience, including more than 25 years as a Licensed Paramedic with Middleton EMS. Since June 2025, he has served as Officer in Charge, providing steady leadership and operational continuity. His career also includes service as Deputy Chief with the Town of Brookfield Fire Department and as an instructor at Waukesha County Technical College, where he helped prepare the next generation of EMS professionals.

City Administrator Bryan Gadow said Chief O’Dell’s leadership and long-standing commitment to Middleton have positioned the department well for the future.

“Kris has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and dedication throughout his career,” said City Administrator Bryan Gadow. “He understands the critical role EMS plays in our community and has earned the trust of his colleagues and the residents he serves. His experience and steady leadership will ensure Middleton EMS continues to provide the highest level of care as our community grows.”

Chief O’Dell said he is honored by the opportunity to serve and continue Middleton’s strong public safety tradition.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust this community has placed in me to carry forward our mission of safeguarding the residents and visitors of Middleton,” said Chief O’Dell. “As our city continues to grow and evolve, Middleton EMS remains committed to providing exceptional, compassionate emergency medical care while meeting the needs of a dynamic and expanding community.

“I am grateful for the support of our elected officials, city administration, and our dedicated public safety partners. Our strength is rooted in teamwork, professionalism, and a shared commitment to service.

“Our department benefits from the strong foundation established by retired Chief Steve Wunsch. We will build on that legacy by investing in our people, advancing thoughtful initiatives, and ensuring the long-term health and resilience of our community. It is a privilege to serve in this role, and I look forward to working alongside our team and our community.”

The Middleton EMS Department provides emergency medical response, advanced life support services, and community health support to residents and visitors throughout Middleton and surrounding areas. A formal swearing-in ceremony will be announced at a later date.
