Winter Weather Alert Header

With temperatures dropping sharply tonight, our Public Works crews are out clearing as much slush as possible from the streets this afternoon and evening. This work is important — if we don’t remove the slush now, the roads will freeze into solid ice overnight.

Here’s the part we want to give everyone a friendly—and honest—heads-up about:

Some of the slush will end up at the ends of driveways.

It isn’t intentional, and it’s not targeted at any particular street. It’s simply how plow blades move heavy, wet snow off the roadway. Open driveway entrances are the first available place for that material to go.

We know it’s frustrating to clear your driveway, only to have to clear it again. Most of us have done that same late-night re-shovel, and we understand the extra effort involved. But clearing the streets before a deep freeze is essential for emergency access, bus routes, and safe travel throughout the community.

A few reminders as we head into tonight’s freeze:

- Removing slush early helps prevent large sheets of ice from forming on main travel routes.

- Re-clearing the end of your driveway sooner—before temperatures drop—can help prevent it from freezing into a solid block overnight.

Thank you for your patience and for helping keep your neighborhood safe and accessible during winter weather. Your efforts at home make a real difference, especially on nights like this.
