Airport Manager Richard Morey Receives FAA's Wright Brothers Award

Middleton, WI – Middleton Municipal Airport Manager Richard Morey was presented with the distinguished Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award following a pilot safety seminar at the Middleton Municipal Airport on October 23rd.

Presented by the Federal Aviation Administration, this award recognizes U.S. citizens who have 50 or more years of civil and military piloting experience or 50 or more years combined experience in both piloting and aircraft operations following their first solo flight. The award reads, “In recognition of your 50 years of exemplary aviation flight experience, distinguished professionalism, and steadfast commitment to aviation safety.”

“Since the 1940s, the Morey family has trained hundreds of students at the Middleton airport to follow in Orville and Wilbur Wright’s footsteps,” noted Alder David Lorman (District 7), chair of the City’s Airport Commission. “Rich was deservedly recognized because of his demonstrated safety and professionalism since he became a pilot half a century ago.”

The Wright Brothers were two American aviation pioneers credited with inventing, building and flying the world’s first successful motor-operated airplane. The brothers made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
