City officials are excited to announce the launch of a public survey to gather feedback for Middleton’s first-ever Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which aims to make the city more accessible and welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and users of small "micromobility" devices, such as scooters. Residents and those who work in the community are invited to participate in the survey and help identify improvements related to walking, accessibility (ADA), bicycling, and the use of micromobility devices along city streets, paths, and sidewalks.

The ATP will replace Middleton's 2009 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and will address actions from the 2023 Comprehensive Plan, focusing on:

Mayor Emily Kuhn stressed the importance of community involvement, stating, “This survey is just one of the ways that residents can help shape Middleton’s Active Transportation Plan over the next few months. We’re eager to hear your ideas for making our community safer and more convenient for non-motorized transportation, ensuring that everyone—whether walking, cycling, or using micro-mobility devices—can easily and safely navigate our city.”

The ATP builds on the city’s Complete Streets policy adopted in 2022 and new zoning ordinance standards that went into effect on March 1, 2024, including enhanced pedestrian access and bicycle parking requirements.
