The City of Middleton is seeking an innovative, visionary and highly engaged community leader to become its next Administrator. The current Middleton City Administrator is retiring after 23 years of service. Located just west of Wisconsin’s Capital City of Madison, Middleton is affectionately known as the “Good Neighbor City” and has been honored by both Money Magazine and CNN as one of the top ten small cities to live in the US (under 50,000 population).

Middleton is a highly desirable and growing community that has a range of housing options for people wanting to live in a safe and sustainable setting yet close to many urban amenities. Middleton is also a welcoming and inclusive place that combines small town charm with a family-friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The community is very proud of its outstanding schools, excellent medical facilities, great shopping and myriad employment and recreational opportunities. Middleton is a full-service community that is an outstanding place to live, work, play, learn and visit. Starting salary range $130K-$155K DOQ plus excellent benefits. Mayor and Eight City Council Members are elected for two-year terms on a non-partisan basis. $66.7M total annual budget including General Fund ($23M), Special Projects, CIP, TID’s, Debt Service and Enterprise Funds. 151FT and 251 part-time/seasonal employees (200FTE). Future emphasis on capital improvement planning/implementation including Community Campus Project-Library, City Hall and Senior Center; maintenance of current high municipal service levels despite State imposed levy and expenditure limits and physical community growth limitations; successful retirement of Middleton TID #3 (probably the most successful TID ever in Wisconsin); continued community investment in renewable energy options and implementation of Middleton Strategic Plan (2022-2032).

Require Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration or related field; prefer Master’s Degree with at least seven years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in a municipal organization. Desire a strong background in community strategic planning/implementation; organizational change and development; intergovernmental relations; economic development (including TID experience); community engagement and budget development and management. The successful candidate should be a person of high personal and professional integrity; be a team builder in addressing community issues; have a collaborative decision-making style; be a constant communicator both with staff and the community; hold people accountable but serve as a facilitator/mentor in achieving community goals and possess the ability to work with diverse personalities and perspectives.
