The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning from 6:00 p.m. this evening (December 15) until 6:00 a.m. December 16.

• There is the potential for sustained Tropical Storm Strength winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour.
• There is also the potential for brief Hurricane Strength straight-line winds of 70 to 80 miles per hour.
• NWS will be monitoring the event and can issue a pushed alert to cell phones for a Severe Storm Warning if they are seeing winds approach 80 miles per hour.
• Residents may want to secure property including inflatable holiday decorations and consider sheltering away from windows and large trees if higher winds are detected.

The High Wind Warning refers to sustained 25 to 35 mph winds with gusts up to 65 mph. Our area could potentially see 40 to 50 mph winds for up to 12 hours.

There is also the potential for thunderstorms, and we could see brief higher winds, potentially in the 70 to 80 mph range, in a storm. It looks like the greatest threat is along with the Wisconsin/Iowa border between 6-8 pm, but there is also the potential for storms in our area from 8-10 pm.
