On May 13, 2021, Middleton Police Officers were requested to check on Thomas Schmitz, 71, of Middleton. Officers located him driving his vehicle.
During the investigation, it was determined that Schmitz had consumed alcohol prior to operating the vehicle. He showed signs of impairment and smelled of intoxicants. Officers administered field sobriety tests to Schmitz and he was ultimately arrested for 6th offense Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI). Schmitz was transported to the Dane County Jail where he was booked in on a tentative charge of 6th offense OWI.
