People may use a face mask, scarf, bandana or other types of face coverings. The public can request free face masks through the Dane County Emergency Management website.

According to Public Health Madison and Dane County:
• Complaints and concerns about enforcement of the mask order SHOULD NOT be sent to law enforcement. The public health team will determine the "best way to provide education to individuals and businesses that are noncompliant, with the goal of providing education first, before moving towards enforcement." Concerns and complaints about businesses may be emailed to: compliance@publichealthmdc.com. This email address should not be used to complain about individuals not wearing masks.
• People or businesses violating the order may be cited. Citations issued within the City of Madison amount to $376. If issued outside of Madison, under the County ordinance the ticket amount will be $263.50.
